The very southern tip of New Zealand. The wind comes all the way from Antarctica to sweep over this landscape. The few trees are bowed and twisted away from the coast. It’s hard to believe this terrain is only a few hours drive from the fiords and rain forests of the Milford Sound area. That is the special beauty of New Zealand – the wide variety of landscapes in close proximity to each other.
It was late and we needed to find a place to stay, so I took this one photo and told myself I’d get up early and find some more scenes like this to study more closely, but 30 minutes later we were in a different micro-climate altogether and by the time darkness fell and we found a place to stay I had lost my opportunity. There’s a special spiritual quality about a place that is the last point of land facing an infinite ocean.

the plaster is a little waterier than normal here to to make sure I have time to bang out the air bubbles on the tips or the mask… once the plaster starts to set up… you need to coat the mask with splashes and blowing the plaster into place.
