Two months and twenty pounds later…

The left photo was taken on April 20, just before I started tracking calories at The Daily Plate.

The second photo was taken June 28. I tried to match the pose as well as I could. The difference of 22.8 pounds is subtle but gratifying.

Thanks to Tony Mast for introducing me to The Daily Plate.

Q&A: What all do I need to build a audio system for vinyl?

Question by Dylan: What all do I need to build a audio system for vinyl?
I’m thinking of starting a new long term project of building a “vinyl” audio system from scratch. I plan to build a turntable, a tube amp, and speaker enclosures. What I’m wondering is what all will I need besides those three things? Or can I just plug the record player into the tube amp and then directly from tube amp to speakers? Is a preamp required?

I’ve done a bit of research and have found lots of info for building the turntable from parts of old turntables. None of which will have a built in preamp. Pretty much direct wiring from the tone arm cartridge out to RCA. I’ve also found a good bit of info on tube amp kits like the S-5 that puts out 8w per channel at 8 ohms but it requires .7 volts input for full output. Lastly I plan to build a pair of speaker enclosures but I’m unsure if they need to be powered beyond the tube amp.

So to recap….

1. Do I need a preamp, and does it need to be a particular kind to keep the “tube” sound?
2. Do the speakers need to be powered beyond the tube amp?
3. Am I missing a component?

You need a preamp with a phono stage; and or a separate phono pre amp the signal from the record player needs to be equalized according to the RIAA curve (see RIAA equalization) and also must be boosted to the level of other preamp signals….as the signal is very week, you can build a tube pre amp or hybrid peramp and still keep the tube sound….its pretty much personal preferance everything is going to effect the sound slighly even what tubes are involved….The impedance of the speakers needs to match the amplifier and the amplifier needs to have enough power to puch the speakers to the level of loudness that you prefer….

How bad are bananas for weight loss?

Question by FunkyGurl: How bad are bananas for weight loss?
I am on a diet to lose weight and I usually stay away from bananas because Ive heard they are not a good fruit for weight loss, mainly because of the high carb content. I usually take a glass of non fat milk daily and today I made a milkshake with a banana and a glass of milk, no sugar. Its only about 200 calories, but had about 45 carbs. Is this bad for weight loss?

I eat about 1400 calories a day and do an hour of cardio daily.

Uh…I have no idea what you are talking about. Bananas are low in calories and fat and high in vitamins and minerals. You’re supposed to eat 5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day. Bananas included.

Can you learn how to play the piano by yourself?

Question by Sierra Leone: Can you learn how to play the piano by yourself?
I love music and want to do something in the music industry when I’m older. I want to learn how to play the piano but my mom said she can’t pay for lessons. Can I watch videos and dvds that teach me? I know nothing about music notes or anything…also I’m 13, is that too old to learn? Most of my friends that play have had lessons since they were really young.

Hands on experience is the best bet. DVD’s can’t teach you to play piano as good as a human can.

I hope I helped 😀

My wife has the best skin, so I asked her.
She said she used Noxzema as a teen, and now uses Cetaphil.
I know she uses some peach face scrub cuz i’ve seen it in the shower.

How Can i get Gigs or what ever you call it for dancing?

Question by Mark: How Can i get Gigs or what ever you call it for dancing?
ok im 13 years old and i love to dance like Michael Jackson . i love preforming in front of crowds too.
How Could i do that? other than talent shows.

Best answer:

Answer by Vince Bruno
One way would be to make YouTube videos. It’s not in front of a live crowd, but if people like you, they will watch you.

Another way would be to go to local teen clubs, coffee houses, late night (teen friendly) cafe’s, and try to get a gig there. Talk to an employee or manager and ask about it. A lot of places like that have live music.

Hope that helps! =)
