How bad are bananas for weight loss?

Question by FunkyGurl: How bad are bananas for weight loss?
I am on a diet to lose weight and I usually stay away from bananas because Ive heard they are not a good fruit for weight loss, mainly because of the high carb content. I usually take a glass of non fat milk daily and today I made a milkshake with a banana and a glass of milk, no sugar. Its only about 200 calories, but had about 45 carbs. Is this bad for weight loss?

I eat about 1400 calories a day and do an hour of cardio daily.

Uh…I have no idea what you are talking about. Bananas are low in calories and fat and high in vitamins and minerals. You’re supposed to eat 5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day. Bananas included.

They aren’t bad for you. Their natural sugars, and fruit does your body good.

Cut out the milk but leave in the bananas. Milk is very fatty and not good for weight loss. Just think about what it’s meant for – to make calves grow as much and as quickly as possible. Not so good for humans, especially fully grown ones.

I have at least one banana every day and I’m also losing weight. In fact, I’ve lost 3 kgs so far and I’ve only been trying for two weeks. Some carbs are actually good, just like some fats are actually good. :)

It makes me mad that bananas have gotten such a bad rep for weight loss! In reality, bananas are great for weight loss. Though they are slightly higher in calorie and carb content than most fruits (mainly because of their low water content as compared to other fruits), they contain many vital nutrients, including potassium and fiber to keep you full. Your milkshake sounds perfectly healthy, and delicious too! I also like to eat a banana in the morning sliced up in oatmeal or cereal, or have it with a T of natural peanut butter for a healthy, energizing snack.

    Best of luck

    are you kidding!
girl, whoever told you that its nuts.
i lost 30 lbs this summer (1m 5’4”, now 99 lbs) and i had atleast 1-2 bananas a DAY! and milk is good, if its non fat. but while losing weight, water is best, just because of the lack of calories.
dont count carbs! its calories that matter!
just eat HEALTHY calories..whole grains, lean meat, fruits, and veggies and youll be good to go!!

Bananas are bad because they are loaded with carbs and fructose. When I’m trying to lose weight, a banana has twice as many carbs as I should be eating in a day and I’m better off wasting my carb count on a filling spinach salad, steamed broccoli, and avocados.

If you work out and diet then bananas are good for your diet. They convert food into energy…eat bananas to stimulate your work outs!

It sounds strange, but some people have reported that they lost more weight when they drank black coffee before a workout. While there’s no hard data to support this, nutritionists speculate that the caffeine in coffee makes the body rely more on fat for fuel during the work out. It’s worth trying!
