Question by dosee: For those who lived during the 1950s and 1960s?
For all those who lived during the rocknroll era. 1950s early 60s how was life back then for teenagers? was it really the golden age? were people much happier? would you go back and do it all over again? or would you like to be a teen in these times? I would really like to know. How was dancing swing and rockn roll? Thank you. Id love to hear stories from those that lived during this era.

I never want to be a teenager again….in any era! I most likely would have to kill myself so I could be like everyone else. I was part of the group who huffed glue & paint & took any pill you put in front of me. Dancing was the be all & end all of oneness with the cosmic universe when we used psychedelic drugs or it was just a way to get a guy to drive you home. I came from a screwed up family & had a lot of screwed up friends.

Sorry if my answer is too rough for you. Not tying to burst anyone’s bubble….just telling it like it is/was for ME & answering your question! Most of us from my group just went to dances & did drugs in the back of the room or in the parking lot. We never danced much because it made us throw up & ruined the high of the moment. We liked to pass out & have our friends drag us to the back of their trucks & leave us there till the sun came up. That’s how we rolled in those days. No fear & no regard for ourselves or the feelings of our family members who had to be worried about us not coming home when we said we would!

We were dumb kids with few smarts & most of us died at a young age. I got to live & can’t believe the new generation wants to mimic our stupidity. I gotta ask WHY. The music was our focus & dancing was secondary for us artsy types who liked to observe & distribute drugs to those who wanted more. It was always free & no money was ever exchanged, asked for, or expected by any of us! It was all about the EXPERIENCE.

Almost 60 years of age.

If my generation would have had respect for authority…we never would have done the things we did.
We grew up with strict rules & conditional love. The “evil” that went with rock music was just a tiny bit of the real “evil” that exists in the world. Perverts go to dances to pick up kids. All dances need strict supervision by adults who know what to look for & put a stop to it. You kids of today DESERVE a happier childhood than we had in the 50’s & 60’s.
