Unexplained weight loss?

posted in Society & Cultures |

Question by mc: Unexplained weight loss?
I recently found out I was gluten intolerant. I was not diagnosed but I just stopped eating all bread and gluten products and my digestive problems went away. As a result I have completely stopped eating gluten. This was a little more than a month ago. Since then, I have gone from about 164 pounds to 157.5 pounds without any exercize at all. My appetite has not changed, I still have energy, and no other changes other than a more normal digestive system. I always hear about hoe unexplained weight loss, or weight loss with no exercize is a concern. My question is, given these circumstances, should I be concerned. Would the dietary change cause the weight loss? And is this cinsidered rapid or extreme weight loss? Thank you.

Yea if you don’t eat carbs you lose alot of weight. Bread is a carb.

This is nothing to be concerned about.
It could just be a result of you not eating the cholesterol and grains that are in the breads and stuff.

    (: Take care!

Any change of diet can cause weight loss or gain. It just sort of throws your body off guard and your entire system is out of whack. You could’ve easily gained 7 pounds instead.

Just keep eating enough healthy food, and you’ll be fine.

I wouldn’t be worried too much.. 7 pounds is not too much. Just keep watching that scale and if it keeps going down, then I would recommend seeing a doctor. Bread does contain a lot of calories, so maybe cutting that out lowered your caloric intake to such an extent that your body, for the past month, has been in a catabolic state. Good for you though..

People should eat more fruits and vegetables.

i think if your feeling okay you should be fine. its not really unexplained bc you know why it happened, you stopped eating gluten. if your concerned about it ask your doctor the next time you go in.

This isnt unexplained weight loss, your diet has changed, that is why youve lost weight and no its far from extream.
    10 pounds itsnt much
    so no dont be concerned

i went from being 8.5 stone to 6.12 in about a year without any diet change (i ate alot) or increase in exercise (my zero amount stayed at zero) that is extream weight loss.
turns out i had a thyroid condition

Sounds like an expected weight loss, consistent with your diet restrictions and I wouldn’t worry about it.
You are smart to avoid gluten in wheat, rye, barley and oats. You will be better for it. Keep in contact with your doctor for monitoring and regular health issues.
    Best regards,
    Donna

I think you just explained your weight loss. Taking gluten out of your diet, you will lose weight. If you continue to lose more weight, you should be more concerned and check with your doctor to make sure you don’t have any other health problems

My daughter found out she was allergic to milk and quit eating milk products and lost 30 pounds in no time at all. Now they think she has another food allergy, she is 30, never was allergic to anything in her whole life before now.
