How do I convince my mom into letting me get on birth control?

Question by Smiles: How do I convince my mom into letting me get on birth control?
I’m 16 and I want to get on birth control. I’m not having sex, not am I planning on having sex for a while. But I heard birth control is good for regulating periods, and helping with acne and such. I don’t have cramps so I don’t need it for that. If you were a parents would those be good enough reasons to get it? What else could I say to talk her into it?

They’re fine reasons, but some parents are VERY firm on the idea that “birth control = sex”.

If you’re worried about the results of what she might say (you know her better than anyone here. What are her thoughts on teen pregnancy, sex, and birth control in general?), next time you go to the doctor, bring it up with the doctor.

What do you think? Answer below!

Take her to the doctor with you. If the doctor deems birth control medically necessary then your mom should be sold on the idea since its coming from your health care provider.

I haven’t heard any strong reason so far for you to be on it, which will only affirm in your mother’s mind that you want a free pass to have sex.

Regulating periods – how irregular are they? Unless they are crazy irregular, deal with it. Are you sure you don’t just have a longer cycle?

Acne – what a joke. Unless your face is super, super bad (and I don’t mean teenage-girl levels of bad, I mean constant, really bad acne that’s getting infected and is actually dangerous to your health), you don’t need birth control for that. Just wash your damn face.

Just tell her what you tell here. That you’re not thinking about having sex yet but it’s a period thing for this moment.
That you want to be safe in the future when you decide to start having sex and you don’t want her to worry about that.
