Question by B.: How do I ask my parents for birth control?
I’m a teen, and I live with my dad, but I don’t want him to flip out if I ask for birth control, I need it to help with my periods:/ i’ve had a boyfriend for seven months now, but I don’t want him to think I’m asking cause of sex or something. How can I ask him without getting a negative reaction?

well when you are on your period i would suggest for u to make it look like your cramps are so bad you have to stay in bed. So then say to your dad you looked up medications that can help with cramps, and say that birth control helps with that.

Well tell him you need it for your period. Tell him what it will do for you. If he doesn’t believe it, tell him to ask your doctor about it. Explain you don’t want it for sex, but for the medical reason only. My best advice is to talk to him about this along with your doctor.

Tell your dad that you’re having ‘female trouble’ and need to see the doctor. If he wants details, start telling him about big bloody clots and vaginal discharge, and other things that will gross him out and make him not want to hear any more. When you are with the doctor you can ask for birth control, and when your dad asks about why you need it, just say that was the solution to the problem.

    Good luck.

If you are 16 or over you don’t even need parents permission. Just go ask your doctor and it should be kept confidential.

Well i can tell you that if your father isn’t knowledgeable about the other uses of Birth Controls apart from preventing pregnancy & that you’ve had a boyfriend for the past 7 mths now, then it’s a possibility that the questions of Sex & Pregnancy will come up and he might get a bit irritable, but what you can do is take him to one of your Family Doctors and let him or her advice him on use of contraceptives or get a female adult friend or family member inform him of the uses.

Then again probably he won’t have such a negative reaction, he might embrace the fact that his daughter came to him instead of a friend. Go to him… & in case you need to inform him, apart from preventing pregnancy, these contraceptives help in reducing the risk of ovarian as well as endometrial cancer. They are known to be helpful in improving conditions like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), premenstrual syndrome, and acne among others. They are also helpful in preventing the onset of osteoporosis. The contraceptives are reportedly helpful in decreasing menstrual cramps, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, and rheumatoid arthritis.

In addition, they are also known to help women who have irregular periods, by getting their menstrual cycle to a regular routine. Besides this, the contraceptives lead to less bleeding during periods. Some of the birth control contraceptives are said to have beneficial effects on cholesterol. They are also helpful in reducing breast diseases and breast cysts. A woman using these birth control measures may not have to worry about excessive hair, as some contraceptives help to get rid of excess body hair.
HOPE YOU GET THROUGH TO HIM…
