Question by Anna S: What record companies actually allow their stars to be in control of writing, videos, etc.?
There are tons of record companies/labels that control every aspect of their stars’ careers; the writing, the videos, the album covers, etc. – but what are the record companies/labels that allow their stars to do the majority (if not all) the aspects of their careers?

It varies – Paul Simon will dictate terms to his record company pretty well, an unknown fresh face will have terms dictated.
it’s a combination of theplayer, agent, manager, company – previous deals, ability, desperation.

there are thousands of record labels, many give their artists a lot of freedom in their music. the ones that don’t are the bigger labels. the labels that produce all of the top 40 music will be in total control of those recordings.

also it depends on the artist. if someone has an established career, they will have more control of their music than the newest teen fad star like justin beener. a person like Michael Jackson (rip) was on a label he could do whatever he wanted because he’s sold millions upon millions of records.
