Q&A: What can I do about being transgendered and depressed?
posted in Chat & Forums |Question by Inga: What can I do about being transgendered and depressed?
I’m a 17 years oold transgendered teen (was born in girls body) and I’m completely depressed about it. Nobody know’s about secret and my family is completly homophobic! I get really depressed and sometimes feel a suicidal because I’m all alone and I’m living a lie. I want a sex change but I know it’s almost impossible in my country + my family will cut themsleves off from me.

Ok, stop right there. You need to get professional help, not help from a bunch of net philosophers (although I am awesome!) The suicide rate for trans teens is very high, and your few sentences are sending out some warning signals to me. Get yourself to a guidance counsellor, or your family doctor, and tell them everything. You may be surprised by the reaction of your family, too. They may be supportive. And if they’re not, you can find a huge LGBTTQ community that can be like family to you. Remember, there are many, many, people that have walked in your shoes. You’re just too young to have heard all of their stories. Hang on until you have had some inspiration.
