Question by lexi18_004: How can I mellow out a male cat whos entering his teen years?
I mean hes becoming very mean and he isnt fixed yet. Rascal, my cat, is fine untill my brother or another male tries to touch him… Is it because hes becoming a teen or is there something else hiding in the shadows? Rascal is my first cat and I love him but Im afraid of having him put down if getting him nuterd doesnt help. Any ideas on this? Also, does anyone with in the Sandernadino county area know iof any places that are cheap to take him?

He should have been neutered years ago. You are so lucky he doesn’t spray urine all over.
Sounds like he may have a health problem starting. Tell the boys to leave him alone.

Call your local animal control, humane society and vet offices for low cost places.

Maybe he is just showing his male “pride” by being mean to the males. I know my male cat Patrick is not too keen on males either. My vet said he feels “threatened” by my husband trying to “take me away” from him and is showing his “ownership” of me. Hope that helps. Good luck. :)

well, male cats are very aggressive especially around other cats. If he’s aggressive around people, it might be something about the person that makes him uneasy. I know this sounds mean, but everytime he’s mean to someone give him a little smack on the top of his head, point at him with eye contact and say “NO!” in a low powerful voice. It worked with my cat (he’s the most cuddly, nice kitty ever now). But you have to make sure you give him lots of love, so he doesn’t think you totally hate him.

Fix him, then train him. A lot of people say cats are untrainable, but that is a total myth. Cat’s are naturally pack animals, and you have to show your authority for them to understand you’re the big cat around here. I have two cats that are well trained, not for tricks, but they understand right from wrong. I can be in my living room, and hear them trying to sneak up on my counter in the kitchen, I either say their name or tell em to get down from where I’m sitting, and they come out of my kitchen lookin all guilty. It is something that will test your patience, but when he lashes out at the guys, he’s trying to show his dominion over you. I had my cat sylvy doing that to my husband, whoop his a** when he does it, and he’ll learn it’s unacceptable. I don’t mean beat the crap out of him or anything like that, for cats; suttle is better. When you see him getting the cranky posture around a male, tap him on his head and say no in a very stern tone. Repeat as necessary. Another thing that works well is a squirt gun or spray bottle. I never had to spray my cats a lot, now i just act like i’m reaching for it when they’re tryin to tear somethin up and they’re outty before you can look twice. If you want to keep your cat, you have to be the alpha female, or the behavior will continue and get worse.

Should have had him fixed years ago. Unaltered male cats get aggressive. Get him fixed asap.

    Also get him neutered immediately.
