The Beatles used full-length films such as “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Help!” to promote their music and lifestyle. Around 1967 shorter “promotional videos” that were the length of a single song were broadcast on TV by bands like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum and the Moody Blues. It still took time for the technology to overcome it’s limitations, however, and by the 80s record labels were starting to see the economic possibilities of videos to promote singles, and around this time MTV was born.
