The San Diego Padres scored 11 runs in the first inning on the way to trouncing the Houston Astros, 18-11, in Major League Baseball action Sunday.
Mike Cameron and Adrian Gonzalez both hit two-run home runs off pitcher Jason Jennings, who gave up all 11 early runs.
In another National League contest, Chicago pitcher Carlos Zambrano became the first 14-game winner in the majors, as the Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds, 6-0.
The Cubs are only a half game behind Milwaukee for the Central division lead, after the St. Louis Cardinals rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Brewers, 9-5.
The Florida Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants, 8-5. The New York Mets edged the Washington Nationals, 5-4, in a game shortened to four-and-a-half innings by rain. The Philadelphia Phillies got by the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1. The Colorado Rockies downed the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-6. And the Atlanta Braves ended Arizona's eight-game winning streak, thrashing the Diamondbacks, 14-0.
In the American League, the Los Angeles Angels completed a three-game sweep of Detroit in a matchup of division leaders, crushing the Tigers, 13-4.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Minnesota Twins downed the Cleveland Indians, 4-1. The New York Yankees ended Baltimore's six-game winning streak with a 10-6 decision over the Orioles. The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4-1. The Seattle Mariners outslugged the Oakland Athletics, 14-10. And the Kansas City Royals vanquished the Texas Rangers, 10-0.
