Not netbooks--smaller. I don't know how to even describe them. They're really small, portable devices, and they can have a plug-in keyboard. You set them up on a table and browse the web. And that's all they're good for.

perhaps what you mean is a mini netbook, pda, or i-pad. you mentioned that it could have a plug in keyboard but you didn't mention if it was a touch screen or not that just had that option. I know that my friend has a nintendo dsi that gets wifi and he had been able to hook a keyboard up to it. Did you see it in use by a stranger, maybe it's a unique homemade device.

You call them, "a few years into the future", since the smallest net browsing computers with the functionality that you are describing are called netbooks. You might have seen some prototypes or concepts from Google, who are pushing "cloud computing" that offloads most functionality onto network servers rather than local to the machine.

Best bet is a PDA. PDAs don't have keyboards, they are small and have wi-fi built in.
