I need to store pictures and music because I'm restoring my computer soon and I don't want to lose all my stuff again.

Whats the best way to store it?
My mom keeps telling me a CD but she's computer stupid so I don't trust her judgement. Thanks!

You could use a CD, sure, but the preferred method would be an external hard drive.

Well you do have a lot of options:
1. Burn the files onto a CD or a DVD.
2. Store it onto a USB drive (if you have one handy) or even an external hard disk drive.
3. You could upload it to an on-line storage service like: XDrive or ADrive.
4. Another option which may not always work, is to create a separate partition on your hard disk (use tools like Partition Magic), where you store your data. On my Sony laptop when I run the restore, it does not affect the data partition(s).

One of the most important things here is, how much data are you saving?

1) A standard CD-R/ CD-RW holds 700MB

2) A standard DVD holds 4.7GB (there is also dual layer but in my opinion they are not practical)

3) A Jump Drive is the easiest way, but the more they hold the more money you pay, and they are not good for permanent storage like a DVD or a CD-R

4) A external Hard Drive is good if you have lots of Data (over 20GB worth) - This is what I use since I have about 50GB of Data.

5) the most expensive option is a Blue Ray disc burner which can hold 25GB (Dual Layer 50GB)
