 Post subject: Can I install Windows 7 OEM on a computer that already had windows Vista OEM on it?

My Hard drive failed so im getting a new one and I want to buy windows 7 OEM can i install windows 7 OEM on a computer that already had windows vista OEM with pretty much all the same components except and different hard drive? I want to clean install. Just to help out the computer was a prebuilt HP.

No. OEM can only be installed on the computer it came with

Yup definitely.
You can install as many OS'es as you want on a computer as long as it has the space for it.

The only exception are Sony VAIO's, they are made specifically only to let one OS be installed.

I have done it myself.

I'll help out with confusion since there is a yes and no answer.

In your case yes you can install the OEM version that you purchased. When you purchase an OEM copy of Windows you're basically just getting only 1 disc (either 32bit or 64bit).

The guy that said no is partially right, but he is referring to OEM copies that come with computers. For instance if you tried to install the copy of windows you got with your computer on another computer it would not work.
