Basically, hard drive on the mac (possibly) needs formatting, can't do it on the mac cos it won't boot up. Is it possible to format the hard drive via a pc and still have it work on the mac? Or will doing so install some sort of windows/pc rubbish onto it?

p.s - the mac won't boot up from disc either....

and it's a mac pro (desktop), not a laptop.

also - it's running os x 10.5 (leopard) if that makes any use to anyone

If you format it for FAT32, it will work in the Mac. However, the Mac should be able to format it's own hard drive with the Mac OS discs.
