All I want to do is install XP, and run Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and a few other programs.

This computer will contain very few of my files.

As long as you mean 20GB, then yes, that should be fine.

Its enough, but you always underestimate what you need. A week from now, your hard drive may be full of music and movies. Id probably get one a little bigger.

As to your stated aims, yes this is big enough. Text takes up little space and compresses very well. Even saving 1,000 jpegs from the net won't be very much. The way space gets taken up, IME, is by the goofy and cool things we find on the net. This cute video. That goofy song. Look, Ma, a whole bunch of cute sayings. This is sure an essential program.

People always underestimate the amount of space they end up using. I went from a 1.2 GB drive to a 3 and felt like I could install everything. That lasted about 6 months. I currently have on my main machine 1 500 GB, 1 320 GB and 2 250GB drives and all are well over 80% full. I have to diligently prune stuff about once a week or I get warnings. YMMV.

Good luck.
