I have a cd burner and a cassette player that I have already hooked up to my computer thru the speaker system and I can use the same cable to insert it into the microphone jack on the back.All I need to know is what program that is on Windows XP to do this with?!I have media player and about 4 other dvd/cd program so what can I do???

Have you tried sound recorder in the accessories/entertainment folder.

That might work

You need a good recording program.
Try Audacity. It's free.

Lame if needed to encode to mp3:
