My CD/DVD burner that came with my compaq presario is having problems burning to a disc. I've tried burning to both CD-R and CD-RW discs using Nero. It gets about 10 % of the way through, then gives me error messages and eventually aborts after trying several times. Any ideas?

You may be burning at a speed to fast for the disc, check the burner settings and make sure they are at automatic

Possible problem & solve:
1. Software configure problem: check the configurations in the software you are using, make sure you have the correct settings;
2. Try to burn the CD using low speed first. If it works fine, then increase the burn speed.
3. Find the lastest patch for your burning software and apply to your software.
4. Use another CD burn software, such as Nero.

It would be best if you gave us the error messages you get.

Most likely, your drive does not support buffer underflow protection. This is especially likely if the drive is more than two years old.

You may also want to check your copy of Nero and make sure you have buffer underflow protection set. When you go into a new compilation, click the Burn tab and make sure Buffer underrun protection is CHECKED.

Also in that tab, make sure the write speed is not set any higher than the max write speed of your drive; you may even want to knock it down to the next lowest speed.

Finally, if you don't mind the write taking a bit longer, on the Burn tab, check ON "Determine maximum speed."

There are other things this could be. Again, without a specific error message, it is impossible to resolve your question authoritatively.
