I just found this game for free on EA play for my Xbox. Can I play it with friends who have a PC version?

Yes. Of course. But your friends will have to buy the game. And that's it. That's your answer. If you want to play a couple of games with me, I've sent my nick in DMs. And by the way, check this article. Is COD MW cross-platform? It has all the asnwers there as well.
