Former President Roh Tae-woo of South Korea

Roh is a former army general who was involved in the suppression of pro-democracy protesters in the 1980 Gwangju Uprising that left hundreds dead.
He had been out of the media for 20 years as his health worsened after undergoing prostate cancer surgery in 2002 and having to go into and out of the hospital frequently.
The former general started out as a coup conspirator. became the first elected president of South Korea He ended his political career by being jailed for "treason" and "corruption".
Rohr opened a tearful apology in 1995 for his $654 million in bribes and admitted he was "deeply embarrassed to have been president".
Roh's government, which ruled the country from 1988-1993, faced many monsoons. both street protests and economic poisoning until it was voted by the public to be South Korea's worst president just two weeks before retiring
In 1996, Roh was sentenced to 22 years and six months in prison for involvement in the 1979 coup and ordering protesters in the 1980 Gwangju Uprising and for corruption. However, he appealed until the court sentenced him to 17 years before being pardoned. and released from prison in December 1997.
