Gospel group together since 1996. Have 2 to 4 people each singing. Haul 6' X 18' trailer loaded with equipment. Make about 150 singings each year, 6 to 10 700 miles or more away. Most within 150 miles. Need dependable truck.

Get an 18 wheeler! I know it sounds harsh but take it from someone who has broken many of fine instruments hauling them in trailers.

Whether you're towing for work or recreation, you'll want F-150 pulling for you. No other pickup in its class tows more. With max towing of 11,000 pounds it can get you and your gear there confidently.

When properly equipped. Class is full-size pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR.

The available 5.4L Triton V8 features two intake valves per cylinder which, combined with variable valve timing, tailors performance to engine speed and load. More low-speed torque to get big loads under way. More high-speed power for passing acceleration and efficient highway cruising.

F-150's tow hook uses the "closed loop" design as opposed to conventional hooks, which may pull out or break. F-150 can pull up to 30,000 lbs. with just one hook

F-150 has best-in-class payload capability - shouldering a massive maximum three thousand sixty pound load. And there's no getting around it... a bigger payload can mean fewer trips, saving time and money!

Download the PDF and check the table this refs

Select column with transmission, cab design, and drive system (4x2 or 4x4) you prefer. Read down column to find the trailer weight that can be towed with engine/axle ratio combinations listed at left. GCWR column shows maximum allowable combined weight of vehicle, trailer, and cargo (including passengers) for each engine/axle ratio combination. Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight assumes a towing vehicle with any mandatory options, no cargo, tongue load of 10-15% (conventional trailer) or king pin weight of 15-25% (fifth-wheel trailer), and driver only (150 pounds). Weight of additional options, passengers, cargo and hitch must be deducted from this weight. Also check Required Equipment.

Key with any truck, especially a used one:
Is who is going to periodically maintain and service it.

I would go to where you are most likely to get service work done,
and ask them (truck service technicians / service manager).

I would look for a used GMC/Chevy extended-cab four-door pick-up truck,
maybe "zero" to five or six years old.

I would not purchase a brand-new truck
(unless someone else was paying for it - business/organization),
the first owner gets hit with the largest depreciation.
The second you sign a new vehicle's purchase paperwork,
it is worth about 1/2 of what its sticker price was,
and if you finance it - you are paying more than the sticker price.

A long time ago,
I would have recommended Dodge RAM, 3500 before Chrysler got bought by Mercedes Benz.
I would recommend a F-150 if Ford did not have their current financial ups and downs.
Toyota Tacomas and Tundras have reasonable reputations,
but purchasing one would not be "Buy America".

Which leaves GMC/Chevy,
a large (relatively stable) company with reasonable trucks.

FYI -
diesel engines in general are better maintained than gasoline engines,
due to the somewhat lubricative properties of diesel fuel compared to gasoline
and a few other characteristics.

If it is 9,000 pounds or less you might consider what we drive.

We have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD CrewCab and have been very pleased with it. It will tow up to 9,000 pounds and has a good towing transmission set up. It easily sits four adults, can hold five almost as easily, and six if the sixth person has short legs.

My kids, who sit in the back seat, say the A/C and heat reach them just fine.

We have had very few mechanical problems in the 4 years we have owned it: a dead battery once, two flat tires, a damaged tie-rod, and the brake light bulbs have gone out. Otherwise, it needs only routine maintenance consisting primarily of oil changes every 3 to 4 months.

Ours is a very basic "fleet" truck, with a radio, vinyl seats and vinyl flooring, and hand-cranked windows, so there are as few things that can go wrong as possible. It does come with two "cigarette lighters" which means you can plug in two different items, such as one of those small car refrigerators, and auxiliary CD player, and/or a cell phone charger. We added a locking tool box for tools, of course, but also for luggage and miscellaneous stuff we need to have but not in the cab.

It is a bit of a gas guzzler in town, but really loves the highway. Every week for the past six months I have had to drive it on a 500 mile round trip and it has been great.

I recommend it highly.
