HF R40, HF R42 and HF R400 are new camcorders from Canon VIXIA HF R series. They all can record 1080 60p AVCHD MTS files. If you have got one of them and want to directly import and edit its 60p MTS videos with iMovie, you won't see nothing in iMovie window. Because iMovie doesn't support 1080 60p nonstandard format at all.

To successfully get Canon VIXIA HF R40/HF R42/HF R400 60p MTS files to iMovie 8/9/11 for further editing, what should we do? The best solution is to transcode AVCHD to a Mac most compatible format. As we all know iMovie's best format is Apple Intermediate Codec, so the best way is to convert AVCHD to AIC for iMovie users.

Then you need to find a tool can easily fix all the issues of format incompatibility. Here I highly recommend Brorsoft MTS to iMovie Converter for you to do the fast conversion. With it, you also can get the best settings for editing and playing our HD videos. Besides, it can also help you to convert the MTS files from Canon VIXIA HF to MP4, AVI, 3GP, MPEG-4, etc, so that you can easily play these videos on your Mac computer and import these MTS/M2TS files to iTunes, iDVD, FCP, FCE etc for editing. Below are the conversion steps for you.

Step 1, you need to copy your Canon VIXIA video to Mac and launch the recommended MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac, then you can click "Add File" to upload your AVCHD MTS files on Mac.

Step 2, click "Format" bar to choose the output format. Click and choose "iMovie and Final Cut Express--> Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC)(*.mov)" as the best output format for iMovie 9/10/11.

Step 3, tap "settings" icon to customize the output parameters, adjust the resolution, bitrate as you want. Set video size as 1920*1080, video frame rate as 30fps is optimal.

Step 4, hit the “Convert” button to begin converting Canon VIXIA 60p AVCHD to iMovie. After Canon Vixia HF AVCHD Mac conversion finished, you can click “open” to find the output file.

Now you can easily transfer the files from Canon VIXIA HF R40, HF R42 and HF R400 to iMovie for smoothly editing. Just have a good time.
