Summary: If you want to search for an useful conversion software to put DVD movie collection on NAS and play through TV, tablet, PC and other DLNA devices, this article will give my own experience about it and it may provide some reference for you.

My goal is to copy my DVD collection to my NAS drive. Output MKV or mp4 for viewing on my TV’s around the house. I have used one free software, but it is stuck into an endless routine and the ripping process is not even starting…What's the problem?

NAS, with Network Attached Storage in full, is the extender for home sharing. With the supported network protocols established between NAS and Blu-ray/DVD Player or HD TV, you can enjoy high quality movies in high definition. To copy dozens of Blu-ray DVD movies to NAS device, you need to convert Blu-ray and DVD library to NAS MKV/MP4 format for media player like PS3. In this case, powerful third-party software for backup Blu-ray/DVD to Synology NAS is what you need.
Here, Pavtube DVDAid is right for you. Having tried Nero?Pavtube was easier to use and more stable. what's more, Pavtube DVDAid makes 1:1 copy of original DVD without quality loss with all audio streams, subtitle tracks, extras, etc. It also can convert DVD movies to MP4/AVI/MKV/WMV and many other video and audio formats with high quality. If you are a Mac user, try Pavtube DVDAid for Mac

How to Backup, Rip DVD to MKV/MP4 for NAS streaming

Step 1. Insert your DVD disc into your DVD drive, run the best DVD to NAS Converter and click "File" icon to load movie from DVD source(Disc, folder, ISO). Set your wanted subtitles and audio track from the drop-down box of "Subtitles" and "Audio" tab.

Step 2. Click the "Format" option, and choose HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mp4) or MKV HD Video(*.mkv) as output format.

Tip:

If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.

If your computer have Nvidia CUDA/ATI AMD ready graphics card, you can have GPU encoding and the conversion would be faster.

Step 3: Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Blu-ray ripper will start the conversion from DVD movies to MKV/MP4 for NAS and media player.

After conversion, you can stream DVD movies through NAS to HDTV with PS3 or popcorn hour or other DLNA-compliant devices.

To make it successful to stream your DVD movies to DLNA compliant HDTV, you need install Windows Media Player on your PC/Mac first. And refer to this guide to start streaming your DVD movies to DLNA compliant HDTV without trouble.
