Japan has announced that the country's space agency has lost contact with the Minerva robotic asteroid lander, which was meant to land on an asteroid, gather data and surface samples and then return to Earth. The lander was released from Japan's Hayabusa probe on Saturday and the complete loss of control was announced this morning. Space agency spokesperson Kiyotaka Yashiro said: "It didn't touch down and we're not sure where it will go." The Hayabusa probe is due to make its own landing on the asteroid later this month, as Japan attempts to become the first country ever to make a two-way trip to an asteroid. Source: news.yahoo.com
