Washington has said it is troubled by the reported claims of abuse of 170 detainees held by Iraqi security forces and is backing an investigation into the matter adding the US did not practice torture and did not believe others should either. The White House has been quick to distance itself from the latest reports of prisoner abuse saying that those responsible for mistreatment should be held to account. Some officials are now voicing concern that Sunday's discovery of many malnourished prisoners, some showing signs of apparent torture, may only be the tip of the iceberg regarding the use of torture by the newly formed Iraqi military forces.
