Republicans are moving ahead with legislation that will speed up executions in the US by limiting Federal Court appeals of those sentenced to death. The act is known as the Streamlined Procedures Act of 2005. A key provision has also been attached to a bill renewing the PATRIOT Act. Sen. Patrick Leahy called it "a crude partisan solution to an unproven and largely non-existent problem." Opponents of the bill claim that the bill would result in innocent people being put to death because it would strip the ability of the courts to review claims in capital cases. Source: abcnews.go.com
