A pilot flying his home-built aircraft at 8,500 feet was forced to perform an emergency landing on a four-lane highway that luckily wasn’t busy. Frank H. Smith, 87 said this was the the first problem he has had in about 30 years of flying and that his home built aircraft has never given him any trouble since he built it in 1993. Mr Smith when asked about the choice of his landing spot said, “Highway 1 was the best I could do. I lucked out.� The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, although State Trooper Ed Suttles said no charges would be filed. Source:
