AIDS Hits New Record: 4.9 Million New HIV Cases in 2005 That makes the number of infected people 40.3 Million. 2005 was the highest jump in the number of infected since 1981. Most of the increase was from sub-Saharan Africa and the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe said UNAIDS. This year 3.1M have died including 570,000 children, many more then from the other natural disasters around the world. In developing nations 90% of people do not know their HIV status according to UNAIDS. India could have 50M cases by 2025. In South Africa deaths of people between the ages of 25 to 44 has doubled and the infection rate amoung pregnant women is 29.5%. Even being married and monogamous does not spare the women.
