The UK's Meteorological Office has issued a warning that a cold front is likely to bring rain to the south-east of England, which will fall as black toxic rain full of oily soot. At one point the pollution cloud from the huge fire at a fuel depot near London stretched from East Anglia to Salisbury Plain, in Wiltshire and was 2,750 metres (9,000ft) above ground level. A police spokesman said: "We are advising people to close their windows and doors and to go immediately to a doctor if they breathe in the fumes."
