Post subject:  Tougher Steroid Penalties in Baseball Approved

Players and owners have agreed to stronger penalties against baseball players who use steroids. Penalties will now include a 50-game suspension for a first offence, 100 games for a second offence and a lifetime ban if one is caught a third time. The agreement, proposed by baseball commissioner Bud Selig, was agreed to readily by players and owners following the threat of a federal law suit. Team management are also now allowed test players for amphetamines. Selig said of yesterday's agreement that "We've taken, in my opinion, a giant step forward. And it's a very, very proud day for baseball. I don't regard this as an interim step. I regard this as the completion of a long process." Source: news.yahoo.com
