Labor unions have revealed that the Delphi Corp. -- the world's largest auto parts supplier -- plan on cutting some 24,000 factory jobs over the next three years. The company recently filed for bankruptcy protection for its US operations. Delphi recently proposed wage cuts to its factory workers, at one stage offering just US$9 an hour. Currently, factory workers earn US$26 an hour. Union spokesperson Ron Gettelfinger has called the latest offer of US$12.50 an hour "insulting". Six unions representing Delphi workers have merged under one banner, calling themselves Mobilizing@Delphi. A stop work meeting is now expected in January, which would have a devastating effect on General Motors' production. Source: http://www.detnews.com |
