The Chinese government is racing to vaccinate billions of chickens, ducks and other poultry in an effort to stop the spread of the bird flu virus after confirming two human fatalities caused by the virus today. The two human fatalities were a 12-year-old girl in central China and a 24-year-old female poultry worker in the eastern Anhui province. A third confirmed human cases was also reported, the girl’s nine-year-old brother, who is currently recovering. China has confirmed 11 outbreaks of bird flu in the last month but only in chickens and ducks and has not reported cases in humans prior to today. Source:
