Hyundai Motor Company is redesigning the Santa Fe SUV model for next year. Work will begin the first quarter of 2006 at its new Montgomery, Ala. plant, which also produces the Sonata. The new Santa Fe will be 2 inches wider and higher, and about 7 inches longer than the current model. A third row of seats is added that increases it from five seats to seven. The chassis was improved to make the ride more sedan-like. North American models will sport a 3.3 liter V-6 gasoline engine, whereas the European version offers a 2.7-liter V-6 gasoline engine or a new 2.2 liter diesel. The new Santa Fe will compete directly with the Ford Escape and Jeep Liberty. Source:
