The first Youth Olympics is to be held in 2010, with the host city to be chosen in February. An estimated 3,500 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 will compete. IOC president Jacques Rogge said the games would help inspire young people around the world to take up sports.
The winter version would begin in 2012 and be open to about 1,000 athletes. The site for 2012 will be picked by January 2009. Rogge says at least six countries have expressed interest.
