Washington DC to Host Earth Live Concert By Ray McDonald Washington 06 July 2007 A surprise concert in Washington, D.C. has been added to the Live Earth lineup. Tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time, the July 7 event will be the earliest U.S. concert. Former Vice President Al Gore will kick off the concert, called "Mother Earth," at the Outdoor Welcome Plaza at the Museum of the American Indian. Featuring celebratory sunrise drumming, it will include performances by Native American musical artists, including Blues Nation. Country artists Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will also perform on The Mall, a grassy lawn linking the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. The Live Earth concert series begins July 6 at 9 p.m. Eastern time at Aussie Stadium in Sydney, Australia. It will continue around the globe with concerts in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Hamburg, Germany; London; and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, before reaching the United States. The other U.S. event takes place in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Proceeds from all the shows except Rio, which is free, will go toward the Alliance For Climate Protection, founded and chaired by Al Gore. source: http://www.voanews.com |
