I received a graduation announcement in the mail a couple of weeks ago from my old roommate in Florida. I lived with her & her son for about a year & a half or so & have since moved here to VA. We still keep in touch here & there (we were close when I lived out there) & she sent me an announcement stating that her son is graduating. How should I respond to it? 10 points to most detailed or thought out answer. Thanks all!

I didn't say it was an invitation I said it was an announcement. Why would a travel if it is just "annoucing" his graduation?

Obviously you can't go unless you want to travel. Just send some money and a nice congrats card.

Well, just say congratulations, and how you feel about this.

I think if you knew her son, even casually, you should acknowledge his graduation. At the very least, I would send a card. If you feel so inclined, a gift card or a check would be nice. It wouldn't have to be a great amount, but an amount that is meaningful to you. My friend's daughter recently graduated, and we attended the "open house" party and gave her about $100. Of course, before I was my friend's friend, I was the babysitter for her three daughters--so this young person is pretty important to me. Use your judgment...and go with your gut on this.

i would call her and say congrats and then send her son a card. i don't think a gift is necessary, i didn't get any when i graduated except from my parents.

A greeting card with a nice sentiment like "You did it!! Good for you!!"
will suffice.

A separate note of well-wishing to your old roomy would be nice too. Mention that you heard the good news...blah blah blah.
