Gong away for a few days what should I do about my goldfish?

posted in Videos and Audios |

I have a little fantail in a 5 gallon tank dont worry shes getting a much bigger tank in a few months so she can really grow into it but I was wondering what I should do since I am going home for a few days tomorrow. I bought her an extra plant so she can have something to nibble on she has two large elodia plants in her tank now and Im wondering is that enough? dont want to use one of those vacation blocks and feeders because Ive read too many online horror stories about them. Would it really be okay to leave her alone for about four days without food? Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

Also I will be going home for about two weeks during the easter holidayabout a week after I come back. What should I do in that case do you think?
I would ask a friend to do it but I have only just moved here and I dont really get on with my flatmates. I will be going saturday morning and coming back tuesday evening so really she is going two days without food. But if goldfish get hungry they eat the plants dont they? The whole reason I bought them was so she could have something to nibble on.

Just think about how you would feel if you didnt eat for four days could you really do that to your pet? Get friends/family to look after her or if you have a neighbour that you trust give them a key so they can feed it.

Shes fine for a few days Ive left mine for a week. And i think with the plants she would even be ok for 2 weeks. Just leave her shell be fine. Or if your not cool with that look up FETCH on line they are a company that sends people to care for your pets while your gone you would only need them to come once.

if ur only only away for afew days dont worry about feeding it. u should really be only feedin fish every other day. ive worked in a petshop for 7 years and i only feed the fish 34 times a week.

They sell automatic feeders in pet stores if you would like to try that..

Dont try to give the fish extra food and dont get someone else to feed it. It wont hurt a goldfish at all to go for a few days or even two weeks without food.

The problem with having someone else feed your fish is that they always feed the fish far too much which pollutes the water which kills the fish.

Like he said the fish will be fine. And theres no need to eat him because hell live. He has his plants too. Most goldfish dont get this. If someone does ever feed you fish though I know a good way for your fish to get the right amount of food every day. Buy one of those old people weekly pill boxes. Then put the food you want him to have every day in the corresponding day. This has worked great for me.

That will be absolutely fine. Goldfish are very hardy and the starvation for a few days will not hurt her. It may even help by giving her system a chance to clear.
The elodea is a very nice idea. Our comet absolutely loves it. Hes a big boy but hes been snacking on it since he was only a few inches long so I cant see it being a problem for your little fish either. :
One alternative to those nasty white feeder blocks is an automatic dispenser since you can choose when and how much it feeds your fish. It is still a risk but you can test them for a few days beforehand both in and out of the tank. We used ours whilst we were out of the country for five weeks and came back to a perfectly happy fish. We just asked a neighbour to look in and make sure that it was doing its thing but under no circumstances to feed him extra.
Water changes are more of a problem than food but since you are only gone for a very short while thats not a problem either. :
