Has my shampoo caused acne?

posted in Teens |

I am in my late twenties and besides the usual odd spot never had much trouble with my skin. Until a few months ago when I developed acne on my cheeks jaw line around my eyebrows and hairline. I developed really painful hard lumps under my skin and general spottiness like never before. I stopped my contraceptive pill changed my washing powder put my bed sheets through an extra rinse cycle chucked out and replaced my make up bought new make up brushes and sterilise them frequently Basically tried everything except the docscos hubby had acne as a teen and nothing he got worked til he went private. At the hair dressers 2 weeks ago and hairdresser explained how my shampoo might not be right for me and that I should change to a milder one. Started using my kids baby shampoo til I got round to buying my own and 2 weeks later my skin is really improved I researched a bit online how I ended up here and found that some researchers believe Sodium lauryl sulfate is the culprit in most shampoos cosmetics etc. and that I should go organic.
Any one else had similar experiences?? Tips/ advice/ knowledge all greatly appreciated as I am C.bridesmaid at my Best friends wedding in 2 months and Im dreading the photos
By the way it was Tresseme Body shampoo and conditioner range I was using.

i personally have never had that problem. but it could be the conditioner. make sure u use that before u wash the rest of yourself. it can leave a residue that could cause acne.

Why are you dreading the photos? If your skin has improved Im not sure what it is you want help with…

Generally I find that chemicals on my body are a bad thing and natural products are a good thing. I wash my skin with castor oil check this: http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ and wash my hair with raw eggs not as gross as it sounds and makes my hair reeeally soft and I get great results.

    Avoid the chemicals

Sounds like you have been dealing with cystic acne which is difficult to deal with. A dermatologist could help. Differin is a topical that works well for stubborn acne prescription. As far as makeup: One of the best things I ever did was to switch to a true mineral makeup buy a good brandskip the drugstore brands which arent always pure minerals. It really did help heal my skin along with the Differin. I very rarely have a spot pop up now when I had been dealing with major outbreaks for years. Another thing you mentioned was that you stopped your contraceptive pillsthere are a few contraceptives used to treat acne…If you wish to continue with the pill talk to your gyno. about one that will promote healthy skin.
