U.S. all-female rock group Antigone Rising, in Israel from February 20 – 24 as part of the State Department’s Art Envoy program, performed for Jerusalem audiences at Beit Mazya on Tuesday February 21. The all-female Israeli rock group Tarantina provided the warm up act for the evening’s program entitled “Women in the Spotlight.” The event attracted people from all sections of the public, including Jerusalem’s LGBT community

Their message of empowerment for women was clear as Nini’s voice, as loud as Kristen’s and Cathy’s guitars, and driven home by Deena’s drumming. From smoky bars to high schools with Arab and Jewish kids, audiences responded immediately to the band’s authenticity. Can music build bridges?
